Clean it thoroughly and fire a couple hundred more rounds before you consider carrying it. If you have a problem after that, it is probably the ammo.

What I learned about my p-64 today . . .
. . . when you drop it, and that pointy little hammer lands on your big toe, it really HURTS! (Even with a shoe on.) p.s. that is why you should never carry with the safety off. If you drop it and it lands on the hammer, it could fire. (And after today, I know that it is possible to drop it.) -Kempin

+1 They are either not crimped or inadequately crimped. (That is the precise reason FOR crimping a revolver round.) If you have loading equipment, you could put a crimp on them . . . but then again, if you have loading equipment, you might as well load your own. I would ask for my money back, unless...

new here , just bought a p-64 and it broke :(
Fattie, To be honest, that sounds like a good plan. If I bought a pistol that broke, I would want my money back, even if the make and model were known to be good. On the other hand, I wouldn't be afraid to replace it with another p-64. What happened to yours is hardly typical. Good luck with your de...

Thanks, Norm, and good luck Fattie
Terrible bad luck to have with your first p-64, but the pistol really is worth the effort. Good luck to you.

Thanks, Norm, as usual, for your gunsmithing expertise.
Apparently it is not unheard of for those to break. Is this a fairly common problem? I was unaware.

Wow. Sorry for your disappointment. It is certainly typical for a new p-64 to jam a bit as you are first breaking it in--especially if they are heavier hollowpoints, but that is a fundamental piece of the pistol to break off. That is unacceptable and unsafe. I have no explanation for that and would ...

Ammo for the P64
We had a discussion about 18 months or so about this. In all fairness, the 71 grain statement has been THEORIZED to be a misprint--and reasonably so. I don't think any actual evidence was brought to support that theory other than the fact that no one has found any 71 grain ammo from the 1960s. Perso...

Wolff springs
OK, it is my fault for being out of touch for a while, but is Wolff now making recoil springs specifically for the p-64? I decided against the hammer spring, but I wouldn't mind having a spare recoil spring.

Best online price for 9X18?
Hmmmmm. Sounds like it might be time for some of you to take up a new hobby. Handloading for the p-64 is very rewarding, and it works wonders for "ammo anxiety."

Corrosive Ammo
That's a great cleaning routine, and I would recommend it after any corrosive ammo. The chrome lining of the barrel should also reduce the impact of corrosive ammo--certainly better off than the older rifles. (In fact, I think corrosive primers is the reason they chromed them--correct me if I am wro...

Thanks for the replies. blinddog, that it an interesting idea. I assume you are talking about the part of the mag that pushes the cartridges up, and you are right. Both mags have the same configuration. I will look for a simple milspec mag or one with a different floorplate and see if that will make...

OK guys, my p-64 is working so well that there is not much to say about it, but I do have another mystery on my hands. Since I heard some of you talking about a .45, I thought I would share my puzzle with you. I have a Rock Island 1911 .45 (In part because I was talked into it by members of this boa...
