Re: Mahovsky's Metalife Finish

I have a friend who swears by it.

Hard chrome is definitely more durable than nickel and nickel is pretty hard.

Re: Firearm finishes

Not to necro-thread, but I ended up trying my hand at Rust Bluing. I detailed the process in this thread: http://www.thektog.org/forum/f99/if-i-can-rust-blue-you-can-too-257493/ The synopsis is that it is darn near idiot proof and the results are really nice. There are a few key places where you can...

Re: gun stores selling P83s?

I got one from SOG less than a year ago. It had the predictable holster wear on the finish but is in fine mechanical condition and shoots accurately. I find it more pleasant to shoot than a Makarov PM (which is what it is most comparable to in size, capacity, and function). Nice trigger for a surplu...

Re: 6+1 will magazine feed OK?

I have had a P64 for several years but carry it with 5 in the mag and one chambered. I have concerns about the mag feed reliability Dose 6+1 work OK Any experiences with this? Yes, works just fine assuming there is nothing wrong with your magazine. If it's not feeding round #6, then there's an issu...

Re: Just got an FEG P63 - Need some help

Sorry. I borked posting the first link. It should have been:
http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Search.htm? ... esults=All

But I think they're out of Extractors too.

Might be worth calling them just to make sure.

Re: Just got an FEG P63 - Need some help

P.S., "ejector" or Extractor? From your description it sounds like the Extractor, not the Ejector. Some parts (PA63) available here: [strikeout]https://www.buymilsurp.com/pistol-parts-accessories-hungarian-pa63-pistol-c-3546_3204.html[/strikeout] http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Search.htm?s=pa...

Re: Just got an FEG P63 - Need some help

A few months ago I bought what I was told both the seller (an ex police officer who owns A gun shop similar to a pawn shop), it says "Made In Hungary", "K.B.I. INC." and "HARRISBURG, PA" on the right side of the slide, and it says "FEG" "Budapest", ...

Re: Anyone ever have a Physician ask them if they own a fire

Yes, I've been asked. "Firearms are a leading cause of death and injury among children, do you have any firearms in the home?" I lied and said, "no" and then followed up with, "we don't have a swimming pool either, and our children are always properly restrained when in a mo...

Re: Ammo

Some P64's have very sensitive out of battery disconnects and Brown Bear can be just a very small bit over-length.

Re: re-bluing a P64, anyone know of average prices?

I just got my very first P64 yesterday - I would have gone w/ hand select, but these are getting harder to find, so there was no hand-select option on classicfirearms.com . Gun is from 1972 and I LOVE the way it looks and feels, but it has quite a bit of holster wear, no pitting or rust, just wear ...

Sorry, friend. I guess I wasn't clear in my last post. I'm not going to argue with you about it. No point to it, wastes both of our time, and clutters up the board.

Re: Ammo

The hammer effectively increases the recoil spring stiffness. Would you replace your soft rubber butt pad with a hard rubber one? Everything it absorbs gets passed on (other than frictional losses), it's just spread out over a larger period of time (unless your slide locks back, such as on the last...

Re: Ammo

I think the hammer actually increases felt recoil. Think about the extreme case, a hammer that didn't budge at all (equivalent to an infinitely stiff spring). Your hand would have to absorb all of it. An ideal energy dissipation would have infinitesimally small spring stiffness, coupled with infini...

Military Shooters (.com)

This is a positive, favorable review for Military Shooters, an online ammo and accessories website. On one of the ammo price aggregators, I got a heads up for 9x18 Makarov ammo. I followed the link and was rewarded with an "in stock" flag. I made the order, clicked "buy," and (as...
