Re: Not returning to battery
"LOAD" as in put in a magazine or just let the slide run forward? Can't say as I've noticed this but I also can't remember putting in a mag with the safety engaged, either. I always, iirc, load with the safety OFF. I only really use the safety as a decocker when adding the +1 round before ...

Re: Just got a P-64, very nice weapon
Have fun at the range but be prepared for one helluva kick! These little fire-breathers are fun but rowdy! Most folks don't notice any change in recoil even with a heavier spring. I, myself, had a couple problems while using the 18# spring (like the original) getting the slide fully into battery. Pu...

Re: Second mag that came with p64 doesn't match or operate w
As far as I know, the only difference between mags is the length of the feed lips. I can't remember if the longer or shorter is for the older or newer models but I have a 1968, 1975 and 1977 versions and when I and my 2 grandsons go shooting, the mags invariably get mixed up (and none of the serial ...

Re: WOLFF SPRING PACKS
O.K., lemme see if I got this right: each end of the recoil spring needs to be sanded across the top, kindasorta at an angle so that each end appears flat, like the flat top I used to have in the Navy. Yes and no. Sanded across the top - yes. At an angle - not sure what you mean so NO. Just grind t...

Re: WOLFF SPRING PACKS
Sure but it'll take a lotta work. You could rub it on the concrete, too, but why? Don't have access to a grinder or Dremel tool of some sort? A drill w/sanding disc? That'll make it SO much easier and faster for you.RoyOdhner wrote:Good deal. Will a good old fashioned file work to grind the ends?

Re: Slide problem
I ground the ends of the recoil spring on the 20# Wolff spring as Curly1 suggested and, lo and behold, it's much easier to reassemble the pistol now. I can't quite figure why it works, but it does work. Took the pistol to the range and fired it with both the original and 20# Wolff spring. I didn't ...

Re: WOLFF SPRING PACKS
Since the recoil springs are such a snap to put on and off I'd say just play around with them. Original spring is 18# so you might start there. GRIND THE ENDS FLAT AS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED! And install it tighter end first towards breech. You'll be fine.

Re: ThOUGHT ABOUT MY "NEW" P64 SOME...
I pretty much agree with all above. I had 3 P64s - one for me and one, each, for my two granddudes. I started with 17# trigger springs and 2 of the 3 had no problems. But one DID, so I changed all 3 to the 18# spring and we've not had problems with a light strike since. Recoil springs I started with...

Re: Bringing-out the Luster
If you can find it (I was introduced to it by a gunsmith and found it on Amazon) get some "Major Shine" paste wax. One P64 I bought and received through this guy because he is a friend and has the FFL to receive shipped guns was defaced by rust in the bluing. Not happy. He got his little c...

Re: Slide problem
Spring installed correctly (narrow end at frame) and unground spring ends make removing the slide EXTREMELY difficult if not almost impossible. I've had that problem and needed a younger, more powerful friend to "mule" that slide off! :( I own a Bersa Thunder 380 pistol that is the same. S...

Re: Did something stupid need help
+1 on "in full battery" and +1 on if trigger connected. Check with light if trigger spring might be broken off at the end. Look inside to see if the long end contacts the trigger bar. If not a new one is around $6 from forum member NORM SUTTON who takes PayPal and makes the excellent repla...

Re: Slide problem
Sometimes the springs do get worn out over time/use. Wolff make good replacement springs. However if you do decide to go that route you will need to grind the ends to match your factory spring. There is plenty of discussion of this if you search the forum. +1 on grinding the ends of the replacement...

Re: Did something stupid need help
OK, "will not drop the hammer" as in the trigger works (has resistance), the trigger-bar moves but the hammer won't operate? Or the trigger is limp/loose and nothing works almost like it's on 'safe' or 'decocked'? Let's start there.
And, is the gun back together now?

Re: Polishiron v.05 grip
Got to the range today to try my newly gripped P64 and V .05 grip from Russ. Russ - you are DA MAN!!! My biggest complaint with my P64s was that 'T' seam along the backstrap that the OEM plastic grips formed. No matter how smooth it was, it always seemed to rub the web of my hand enough to make it r...

I'll remember that when you guys are getting hit with tornadoes or hurricanes. I've been through some of the worst: Hurricanes Betsy (1965), Camille (1969), Katrina (2005) and Rita (2005). My luck's held out! Fooled "Mother Nature" a few years ago and bought a whole-house generator. No hu...
