Re: mauser hsc
I have both the 7.65 x 17 (Wehrmacht issue around 1940) and the 9 x 17, one of the last made by Walther post war (around 1973 and not the Gamba version). All Mausers that I have (a 1910 and a 1914) lock open when the mag is empty and then the usual way to close the slide is to insert a loaded mag. A...

Re: Buldged Cases
I have never used cut down 9 x 19, always used either Fiocchi once fired or Starline bought new. By the time I cost my time in cutting down 9 x 19, Starline is a bargain, as I can reload other odd calibres (38 S&W for example) in the time saved. DaveN

Re: Piddlin' with .38 S&W
Gunneyrabbit: I also load an S&W 38 but from 1890 or so that uses the even smaller original 38 S&W case. Not as tall as the 38 S&W case used for the UK 200/380 (aka Colt New Police), but in my 5 shot top break Model 4 in that series, it is quite accurate at 7 yds. Would not want to get h...

Re: Ballistic Gelatin
Since I did in another life practice as a microbiologist, can use 3% by weight Agar in water. Cook to roughly 80 degrees C in a disposable pan (a double boiler works very well, but do not use your wife's favorite set of saucepans). It will melt in and give a free flowing solution. Then pour into a s...

Re: New Owner...Slight Problem/Concerns
I do the same thing with Aircraft Enamel on my older guns. can easily be removed when/if necessary but makes the front sight easy to see in these close to 73 year old eyes. Have to have some advantages to outshoot the youngsters!! Dave_n

Re: P64 vs. Walther PPK/S
I have a prewar PPK in 0.32, a postwar PP in 0.32, a metal PPK/S in 0.380 (one of the early Interarms imports) and two P64s. The PPK from 1934 is the one I prefer, even though it is in 0.32 ACP, simply because the relationship between DA and SA is not as dramatic as my P64s (both of which now have t...

Re: Piddlin' with .38 S&W
I have a fair number of 38 S&W revolvers, Webleys, Enfields and S&Ws. I brought 38 S&W cases from Starline, a local bullet caster makes me 180 grain heads at .360 diameter and I load over 2.8 grains of Clays International. Excellent reproducible POA at 7 to 10 yds. The 38 S&W is &quo...

Re: Mauser HSc pistol
I have the Mausers in 7.65 and 9 mm short. The Gamba guns were made after Mauser stopped making the HScs and then imported into the US. Personally, I would go for the German variety. DaveN

Re: J&G Nagant Revolvers
I have used 32 S&W Longs for years with both a regular and a target Nagant. No problems at all. The 0.32 ACP cylinder required some work on the ratchet to advance properly but works well. I have a C96 and a CZ52, but no way would I use 7.63 Mauser or 7.62 Tokarev in the Nagant. DaveN

Re: field stripping a bear
To some extent this reminds me of the problems that I have with a Walther Model 4. In that particular model, there is a shoulder just under the barrel that the base of the slide has to slip over. there is only one spot that permits it to reassemble. Thus I wonder if there is a raised portion of the ...

Years ago I picked up its older brother the CZ50 (it was a C&R) for $75 delivered. The 70 had some cosmetic changes but that price is too high. DaveN

Re: C&R P64.............
My local "gun pusher" does not take C&R's normally but after buying a significant number of non-C&Rs from them (a husband and wife team), they have my C&R filed away and any time there is a suitable C&R, they give me a call. I simply fill out the first few lines of he 4473 ...

Re: question re cz 82
Have 2 of them from the early days of their importation (C&R Licence is rather useful) and I too, like them almost as much as my older M&Ps. Not the tupperware S&Ws but the real metal jobs. Daven

Re: Wed 9/01/10 was a good day !!!!
Walked into my usual "supplier of my bad habits (gun buying!!)" on Saturday morning to discover a friend selling a S&W Model 41 to one of his acquaintances and I mentioned that I was looking for one as well. About three hours later, my Blackberry had a message on it "bring check b...

Re: I wnet to a local gun show yesterday
I go at times to the local King of Prussia, PA gun show, but have such a good relationship with a local dealer that I usually get first pickings on their consignment guns (and often at the lowest price the consignor will take). Their argument with the consignor is that they will receive their money ...
