Take a moment to find the instructions here to "replace the safety". I lost the plunger for the safety detent and had to make a new one. You don't want this bother if you can avoid it.

Re: Trigger problem P-64

I put a 22# in my P-64. I use the "Israeli Method" to cycle the slide. You take the handgun in the shooting hand, grasp the slide in the other hand. "Punch" the handgun while holding on tight to the slide. Works like a charm. Works best if you lower the handgun towards your belt ...

Re: Why wont my slide go forward on an empty magazine

I recall seeing an edition of "Veoneyee Boie" (sp) which discussed the evolution of the Makarov handgun. The man giving the presentation (Maxim?) said that the Walther had a feature which required "two hands to chamber a round" but that the Makarov had a lever that allowed one ha...

Re: 7.62x54R Pre-case head separation (pics)

The next topic was on annealing. They absolutely don't recommend it. They said that the temperature must be kept within certain limits and it cannot really be achieved by the average DIY'er. They said that by the time you even thought about annealing the case necks due to work hardening, the brass ...

Re: 7.62x54R Pre-case head separation (pics)

A round will temporarily adhere itself to the walls of the chamber. I don't recall the technical term for this. I do know that this adhesion is part of the expansion of the brass and it's a mild form of attachment to the walls of the chamber. Part of the extraction process is to undo this temporary ...

Re: New P64 owner

I own and carry an LCP. I have this feeling that I could go through two or three LCPs before a P-64 was worn out. It's a very tough and durable piece of work.

I changed the recoil spring. This reduced felt recoil somewhat. I like to keep items as close to stock as possible. You never know.

Re: My Gun Jammed

Yeah, I second/third/fourth cleaning the pistol. Self loading firearms have an "energy budget" or amount of energy needed to cycle the system. Dirt causes friction which robs the system of needed energy. I recall that most designers allow for some dirt but not too much dirt. Once you clean...

Re: Hornady custom ammo?

Critical Defense in 9x18 is probably going to perform similarly to CD in 9x17. It's not great "stopping power" but multiple shots will cause a lot of damage. I've shot about ten of them - they are pricey - with no failures of any kind. I've never used XTP. FMJ can over penetrate in some ca...

Re: What ammo do you use?

Silver Bear works great for me. Shoots dirty but shoots well. Silver bear is an attractive round, the tin coating gives it a kind of look, like nickel plating but more modest. I've used Hornady Critical Defense for a tiny bit of shooting. It's quite accurate too. I often use Blazers. If I keep the p...

Re: Is p-64 a good target pistol

The P-64 is not a competition sort of handgun. Shooting one makes you a better shot, like owning a snub nosed revolver makes you a better shot. A short sight radius makes you think hard about taking a shot. The stout DA trigger and the heavy recoil, make you learn to make each shot count. I usually ...

Re: Another way the P-64 can discharge w/o pulling the trigg

Glad that you weren't injured, save your pride. Thanks for the PSA.

I do not carry with a round in the chamber. I'd rather lose a fraction of a second than to have an AD. If I think I'm going to need a "fast shot" I'll carry a snub nosed revolver.

I agree that it's probably a "stock" photo. However it sure does look like a P-64.

I took an hour and a half to put my homemade one back in. Used a small screwdriver and a lot of patience.

I like your way better, Junius.

I'm going to try it with a cleaner firearm. I don't mind being taken to task if it does me some good.
