Re: Good read on stopping power

This agrees with Fackler's work to a large extent. Please note that the Shotgun and Rifle lethality is much higher than with a handgun.

Shot placement is critical. Practice, practice, practice......

Re: P-64 VS PPK-S

Germans over complicate stuff. They're fantastic Engineers but seem vulnerable to the idea that Design by Committee is the way to go. So the Horse becomes a Camel that costs a lot of money, has cool features but breaks more than it ought to. The best argument for the P-64 is that it uses a 9x18mm ro...

Re: FMJ or HP in 9x18?

I see a lot of numbers bandied about. I wonder how many of them were tested in a P64 with consistent distances from the muzzle. I bet the velocity and penetration is less than advertised, when shot through these pocket guns. I made some handloads for my cz82 and could not equal the performance and ...

Re: Book on Wound Trauma in Handguns

Fackler and Sarnow have a few disagreements. Dr. Fackler's review of Sarnow can be seen here... http://www.firearmstactical.com/marshall-sanow-statistical-analysis.htm Fackler accuses both authors of fraudulent research. I have not seen the data. I am not a medical person and do not have police expe...

Book on Wound Trauma in Handguns

Bullet Penetration describes the analysis and testing of a model of bullet penetration dynamics; this model is a significant technical advance over what has been heretofore available. This penetration model is directly related to understanding the production of an incapacitating wound by the bullet...

Re: FMJ or HP in 9x18?

Critical Defense. It'll handle winter coats and leather jackets per Hornady. How does your P64 handle those? My local shop just got in a shitload of them in 9x18, I am hesitant to invest in a few boxes for practice & carry since mine seems to only like Russian ammo, and I have some Silver Bear ...

Re: Another Chronograph Session

Thanks for that. WOW--that PPU is moving. I've heard that a lot of the Winchester metric ammo is S&B. Your chrony results give support to that. An earlier box of Winchester Metric that I had bought had the same green round carrier as the Selier & Bellot that I tested in the above sessions. ...

Re: We should all be in jail

I think the Poles were off of their rockers to let these handguns go. They could have reconditioned them for a pittance and kept them on the street where they belong.

I won't use FMJ except for the 25 ACP, which I have no carried in many moons. I'm concerned about over penetration and ricochet.

Re: what made you pick up a P64? What do you like / dislike?

Cheap, quality, all steel, and Radom's reputation, they made the hardest 98 mauser actions of all the other countries. I'm converting my 2 to .380 though since I'm having a rough time finding quality, affordable ammo 380 Auto is usually more expensive than 9mm Makarov, at least where I can get eith...

Re: what made you pick up a P64? What do you like / dislike?

I got mine by mistake. I'd never seen a Makarov up close and thought that it was a Makarov because the Sporting Goods chain said so. I bought it, brought it home and figured, "Well heck, it's still nice pistol". There is something sincere about both the Makarov and the P-64. They're tools,...

Another Chronograph Session

Sorry for the long delay.... Today's temp was 70 Fahrenheit (I think that's 25 Celsius). Clear skies. Showed up at the range with my Pro Chrono and five different rounds. Between each string of five I let the pistol cool, swabbed the barrel with a patch soaked in Shooter's Choice and then dried it w...
