Re: Jamming problem

I also had the jamming problem described above. I clean my P64 after each session, so that wasn't it. Well, there's cleaning and then there's CLEANING! A bit of solvent, a cleaning patch a rod, a rag and done is great for periodic maintenance. But on some of these old pistols, especially these that...

Re: Problems Possibly from Springs?

I put the 19 lbs hammer spring in this afternoon and that seems to have solved my problem. No more dropped mag after the last round and out of 1 box of Red Army Standard I had only 2 rounds requiring assistance to chamber. I'll do the same with my 1970 P-64 tomorrow and hopefully will get the same ...

Re: Hard to move slide

Try working the slide with the hammer cocked. If that is works better then change to a lighter hammer spring. Also check to see that the recoil spring is not on backwards. The tight end goes on first. +1 to all these ideas and also make sure there is enough lubrication and it's in the right places....

Re: Problems Possibly from Springs?

I'll try some different ammo after putting the stock recoil spring back in. As a last resort I guess I'll put the stock hammer spring back in. I hope I find some ammo this gun likes and don't have to go with the last resort. Unless it's a problem, before you put that hateful original hammer spring ...

Re: Problems Possibly from Springs?

I thought I might have had the magazines swapped on my 2 P-64s, but after switching them out and test firing both guns that wasn't the problem ... The 1969 mag is on the left and the 1970 magazine is on the right. The feedlips look shorter on the 1970 magazine. It has been said it makes a differenc...

Re: Problems Possibly from Springs?

People have also reported light strikes and the magazine dropping out using the 17 lb Hammer Spring. THIS ^^^^ I had the 17# hammer spring in one P64 that dropped the mag. I changed all to the 18# to be safe and no problems, since. I think someone said the 22# recoil spring could cause mags to drop...

Re: Rating Different Ammo Brands

Welcome to the forum Jed. I have used Silver Bear in mine with no problems. I've used Silver Bear and it worked fine - but not in ALL my P64s. No reason, just picky, I guess. Now Wolf WPA in the black box ran flawlessly in all of my pistols so I just generally use that. Hornady FTX and XTP HP brass...

Re: Heavy recoil

I am directly replying to responses. That is not trolling. Snail, if you got a secret to handling the P64 than share it. I don't think ANYONE has a solution to control the P64's recoil that would satisfy most folks. That said, for a younger shooter (my 14 y.o. grandson who is really recoil sensitiv...

Re: Newbie Questions Please

Yes it's smaller then the mak Yes you can replace the spring but I don't think Wolff makes a 12 lb spring 17 is the smallest and if they did I wouldn't use it it would make sa too light to safely shoot imo And yes the safety is also a decocker +1 Wolff makes 17, 18, 19 and 20 lb. hammer springs. TH...

Re: Heavy recoil

Some peeps think the 22lb recoil spring helps, like some other forum members I didn't notice any difference from the stock spring. +1 The recoil spring, IMO, doesn't affect "FELT" recoil much, if any. Many others have said the same. My 14 y.o. grandson uses a fingerless glove I got him and he likes...

Re: Magazine falls out

I think I remember some having problems with the 17# hammer spring causing that and sometimes light primer strikes, too. Did you replace any springs mentioned above? Yes, sometimes it is that simple. But it makes quick reloads even quicker!

Re: Strange new issue with safety reset

I'm with Weasel. I, too, have taken "a little off the top"of the detent spring to make the safety/decock lever a bit smoother and it had NO bearing on the pull weight of the trigger. The problem lies elsewhere. I broke the trigger return spring removing the grips (!!!) on my first pistol so it's not...

I thought the same thing after reading what Weasel said! I hope he didn't try it out again and get even more seriously hurt!!!
