Re: Soon to be P -64 owner.

Agreed! Your notes are invaluable, once you get some experience behind you and learn what a specific gun likes you can make ammo for it that is better quality than factory ammo. I used to shoot in an informal match (years ago) and I used a 6 in. Python. I cast the bullets for it (148 gr. wadcutter) ...

Re: Soon to be P -64 owner.

What Sarge said...I started reloading almost 40 years ago, and it is almost as fun as shooting. It sure allows you to do a lot more of it! It is not difficult, you just have to pay attention. It allows you the versatility to make loads that are tailor made for your gun. A few years ago, I put an Ed ...

Re: "New" Smith

Haven't decided what to do with it. You are correct, a deep blue would look better than park, but parkerizing is so easy to do! I may try my hand at rust blueing it. That would be a labor of love for sure. I did discover that this particular model was only made for about 2 years, 1899 - 1902, and al...

Re: New site Member...

I have the same problem...just call UPS & have them hold the package for you & you can pick it up at their hub. That is what I have found easiest. The hard thing is getting the sticky on the door & knowing that your new gun is unavailable until tomorrow! I don't understand how people that live in st...

"New" Smith

Just picked this up today, interesting old S&W. From what I can gather it is an 1899 Target Model that shipped from the factory originally with a 6 in. bbl. At some point in it's history, this was chopped to three inches & a new sight added. The grips are real Mother of Pearl. Lockup is tight & ther...

Re: Mosin Nagant Supply Drying Up in Russia

I got that same e-mail...went & checked my Mosin supply & found 6. I should buy more. All kidding aside, in the surplus market, I have learned that you need to get them when they are first on the market & cheap, because eventually they will be gone. I wish I would have stocked up on $90 AK "kits", a...

Re: New sights for the P-64?

I have another thought on new sights for the P-64. How about a shotgun bead for the front? All you would have to do is file off the nub of sight, drill & tap 6-48 & screw in your choice of bead. Brownell's has everything from real ivory to Trijicon. I could even use a plain brass bead & get the effe...

Re: Best current supplier

I bought a "worn" P-64 from AIM, and it is 100%, only holster wear, but it was going to get that anyway. I would have to second The Only Sarge's recommendation of Classic Arms. I have bought a lot of guns from them over the years and they are great to do business with, and their guns are as advertis...

Re: Picked up a new RIA M1911 A1 tody

You will like that 1911. It is probably the best bang for the buck in the 1911 world. A couple of friends have them, and they are good reliable shooters. I have a Kimber & Springfield Armory and was thinking about picking up one of those for an "all round" 1911! Really I just wanted an excuse for an...

Re: Bought a Turkish Mauser.

I believe that once you find the "sweet spot" in the load that rifle likes you will do even better. You are for sure on the right track, and have already proven that the Turks are the sleepers in the Mauser world. Do keep us posted on what you find load wise, as I would be interested in what that ri...

Re: Bought a Turkish Mauser.

I'd be very happy with that! Remember you are shooting a 70 year old rifle with less than ideal sights!

Re: Bought a Turkish Mauser.

That is a very nice Turk! That is fine tiger stripe in the stock, did you have to do any cleanup on it? I bought a K Kale Turk years ago, and it was the worst mil-surp I have ever cleaned cosmo out of!

Re: fun at the range today

That's good ammo. I got 250 rounds of it after I bought my P64. It feed & functions 100% and is a bit "warm". I think it is about the least expensive stuff on the market now.

Re: Peening the slide

Gotthcha, but just rounding the edges off like you did will not only smooth up the cocking action of the slide & hammer, but enable the slide to overcome the square hammer & force of the mainspring a bit easier. You are right when you say it doesn't take much metal removal, but just what you did wil...
