That steel ammo sparks at the range so it's not allowed. Also, there are concerns about what that steel is doing to the bore.robhic wrote:Wolf, WPA, Silver Bear, Brown Bear and probably some other steel ammo I've forgotten ALL shot beautifully.

I bought 3 from this vendor 7 years ago, and they worked fine for a while -- and then they didn't. I hope yours are made better.MakAttack wrote:I got mine from keepshooting.com 5/5 stars, $25 but sold out at the moment.

The P-64 is very tough on grips. Some years ago Marschal sent me several sets to test. Several of them broke.

Re: What 9x18 is OK for an indoor range?
Silver Bear HP's (which if you look up ballistic testing on you tube for it, they function ballistically the same as a FMJ) have no steel. You could use them, and they're currently about the same price as the FMJ. My SB HP box says "Bimetal," so it will likely spark like the others and no...

Re: Has anyone refinished their P64?
I'd like to know if anyone has had theirs sucessfully re-blued &, if so, how much did you pay? TIA, folks. Most people seem to think the P-64s they receive are in pretty good shape, so I doubt that many get reblued. Check out the above link for pricing.

Re: What 9x18 is OK for an indoor range?
That indoor range seems like it's run by a bunch of snobs if they can't answer a simple question as to what they will allow to be fired in their indoor range. The range I go to got renovated and then banned any ammo that sparked. They claimed that sparking could cause a fire with their new baffle. ...

Do you ever carry this gun? If so, don't you think that never practicing with how the gun will fire on your first shot (i.e. DA) is a bad idea?[/quote]
I can fire my P64s DA, but when I ever need to use, it will likely be cocked first.

Re: my first gun will be a p64!!
You don't need to change the springs. Especially without ever handling it first. I fully agree. It is fine as is. Try it first before you do anything. Some us consider the stiff DA trigger pull as a kind of safety. When I go to the range, I never fire it DA, so no problem. A stiffer recoil spring w...

I don't think there is a consensus. Some can't tolerate the stiff DA and change the spring and some don't. Not sure if changing the recoil makes much difference.

Good review, but if I'm not mistaken, from what I have read on this MB, changing the recoil springs makes little difference in the recoil felt.
All springs on my P-64s are original.

A Tokarev doesn't even have a proper safety, so no round in the chamber is a no-brainer. I'm curious about how good the Makarov safety is.
