Militech1 product

Nice lubrication properties makes the action work well but not very good rust protection. You have to apply Miltec 1 then heat up the metal in an oven or with a heat gun to make Miltec stick. Even after doing that it is not good enough rust protection for a daily carry piece that lays against your b...

16# replacement spring caution!

I read about many of you replacing the stock mainspring with a 14# spring. Be aware that when you lower the tension on the mainspring you are also lowering the total recoil resistance on the slide. The recoil resistance is a sum of the recoil spring and the force needed to cock the hammer. Don't cut...

How do you carry?

Anybody use the so-called "Mexican carry"? I wear a jacket, but take it off at work, so no belt slide or such will do. I am kind of small anyway, so outside the waistband usually won't work. I don't care for the paddles i have tried. So far I have had no trouble just putting my pistol ins...

Grip Screws - Where can I get?

Here in Houston the Sears Hardware stores have a good selection of metric screws and nuts. They might have one that the threads are right on but you would have to shape it up a bit to go in the round relief in the grip. Another place might be a clock shop. Think repair of small imported mechanical s...

Another Spring Question to Ponder

The P64 blowback pistol was over sprung on the hammer to fire hard primers and under sprung on the recoil because of the stiff hammer spring. The total recoil resistance is a combination of the two springs. So, when we ease off on the hammer spring we need a stronger recoil spring. Wolff Gunsprings ...

Grip Screws - Where can I get?

Actually, it might be a good idea to glue the grip nut to the grip so it can't fall off. If you over tighten you can crack the grips which is worse than losing the nut.

JUST put in the 16lb hammer spring from wolf

There is no P-64 replacement spring yet, unless they surprised us. Everybody has been installing the Walther PPK springs from Wolff, which have been proven to work just fine. My experience was that the SA pull was reduced by 1/4 lb. I have an RCBS trigger pull gauge. One went from 3 1/2 to 3 1/4, a...

The Religion of Handguns

While I'll admit I'd like more firepower and a bigger round, many times such just isn't feasible...-Mark More firepower and bigger rounds are for police. CHL holders aren't going to use more than a couple of shots to extract themselves from a situation in most cases. If you decide you are going int...

The Religion of Handguns

Nscale, You are right in what you say about people not considering what the pistol will be used for when forming their opinion. They read too many gun magazines. In Texas you must be completely concealed with no print that is identifiable. Also, if you shoot someone in self defense, it better not be...

How do you clean your P64

I suppose everyone cleans their pistol after a few thousand rounds. What do you clean with and what do you use for rust prevention both for carrying and storing.

What does your P-64 do?

I like my Makarovs for the shooting range but my P-64 is what carry. As much as I like my P-64 I have to admit if you run 50 rounds through it, you may have a bloody hand. But its size and power make it perfect for protection. I carry mine daily and shoot it regularly. I don't understand this recoi...

What's a 10 pound spring?

The weight necessary to compress the spring to about 85% full compressed is how recoil springs have been measured and reported on the gun forums. There is a good article on building a spring weight measuring tool on one of the forums. I printed it and forgot where I saw it. I'll try to find it and p...

Anyone tried the recoil spring fix?

[quote author=saands board=fixes Keep in mind that the "rating" of a recoil spring (ie 25#) is meaningless when you are comparing springs of different geometries. By that I mean that a 25# 1911 recoil spring is not necessarily stiffer than a 22# recoil spring for a PPK. Saands[/quote] Whic...

Safety dropping on while shooting

There was a thread on this on the Makarov forum before there was a P64 forum. Go to Gunboards Makarov forum and do a search on P64 safety and you will probably find your answer. In general, there is a detent in the hammer bar that is not deep enough and needs to be ground out a little deeper. It is ...
