Re: Mystery 'chamber wear'

I was replying to Brehon1. Even when all of the cosmoline has been removed, on most Mosin-Nagants it will be difficult to release the bolt after firing even on an empty chamber. Polishing some surfaces will help, but the procedure I described works on any bolt. Polishing parts on old weapons is frow...

Re: Mystery 'chamber wear'

Next time you fire the Mosin, try pulling straight back on the safety before trying to release the bolt. It will cock the hammer and allow the bolt to open much easier. It is how the Russians were trained to cycle the gun in order to keep the sights on target between shots.

Re: How do you clear a double feed or other malfunctions?

The few that I have had were easily cleared by dropping the mag and racking the slide once or twice. If one round is sticking out a little, tilt the gun so gravity helps.

Re: Armscor M5 not ejecting high brass hulls

Have you thoroughly cleaned and inspected the chamber? You might also check the extractor to make sure it can move freely. There is a small possibility that the extractor is out more than it is supposed to be while gripping the brass and binding. It would have to be extremely dirty or damaged for th...

Re: Armscor M5 not ejecting high brass hulls

I am not an expert but will offer what I can. Perhaps it is the shells and trying another manufacturer would confirm or rule that out. Nothing these days seems to be made as well as in the past. Another thing to check would be for damage or marks in the chamber. Any rough spots would indicate that a...

Re: Newby with double fire issue

For my daughter, the best home defense gun is a .38 special. No hassles. Simply point it and squeeze the trigger. I would keep things as simple as possible for anyone not well versed in firearms. She can handle it very well and I am reasonably sure that she would be okay should she need to use it. A...

Re: Newby with double fire issue

The DA trigger pull on my P-64 is too high for my scale and probably about 15 lbs. With the SA trigger pull at 3.0 lbs, the difference is extreme compared to most other pistols. Even so, I have not found the SA pull to be too light. That said, I do not think that I would like it any lighter. Good lu...

Re: Recoil pain. Am I holding it wrong?

I admit that I have a tough time removing my PolishIron grips but I have attributed it to the arthritis in my hands. I still manage to get them off every time. Sometimes they require a little "peeling" away to allow them to clear the frame before trying to slide them off. Darned shame you guys cut t...

Re: General cleaning and shooting questions

Disassembling the frame is not really difficult. There are some good videos that can be helpful. Take your time and be careful not to let the springs fly! It is a good idea to use a large clear bag to keep everything contained the first time you take it apart.

Re: General cleaning and shooting questions

As long as you have removed all of the cosmoline that may have been in the gun, it should function normally. The trigger bar may be slightly bowed. Mine was rubbing on the inside of the grip until I carefully straightened it. It still makes a little contact, but nothing that is noticeable. I was tau...

Re: P64 Newb, assumptions and input requested from the collective p-64 brain.

I shot a clip of ammo thru my P64 before I changed the springs. If I had it to do over I would have changed the recoil spring first. The stock spring is so weak that it allows the slide to slam into the frame more then I like. The 22lb. Wolff helps that out to some degree. The 18lb. hammer spring a...

I have found it a good practice to disassemble and deep clean any used or surplus gun before a range trip. Not a bad idea on new guns either!

Re: Unissued / Never Used P64 ?

I bought one from Classic about a year ago and it was unfired. I paid the hand select fee and was very pleased. The slide had been operated a little as evident by the marks in the finish, but like the one you have, it had no marks at all on the feed ramp or in the chamber. After I put 100 rounds thr...

I have bad arthritis in both of my hands and I can get them off without any discomfort. You gotta get the feel for it is all.
