Re: May become my primary...

Been a while since I've been around... wanted to share what more than a year of daily concealed carry has done to my last homemade holster design and my leather grips. Both are holding up far better than expected and have plenty of mileage left in them. The leather grips are virtually unchanged, jus...

Re: Sights the old fashioned way...

A couple views of the aluminum foil sight. Just applied a bit of epoxy to the sight with a toothpick, laid a piece of foil on the sight and burnished it down, trimmed up with an exact knife. The burnishing (I used one of the wood dowels I use to burnish leather edges) shined up the foil to almost ch...

Re: Sights the old fashioned way...

I'm thinking that the technique of the "german silver" dot you are familiar with is the same thing the authors are talking about. I suppose back then a gunsmith as well as a jeweler might do the work. I don't think either one could help today.

Sights the old fashioned way...

I know a few brave souls have endeavored to add aftermarket sights to their P-64s, and many more have broken out the little bottle of Testors enamel and a toothpick and added a dot of paint to the front sight. In the book "Shooting to live" by William Fairbairn and E.A. Sykes (the namesake...

Re: May become my primary...

I've been looking to add a P-83 to the collection, and would consider it for EDC. I really have no complaints though as far as how the 64 shoots or feels. My hands are large-ish but not meaty so I find the grip to be just fine and have no issue with slide bite, and frankly I don't find the recoil to...

Re: May become my primary...

I'm no leather worker, but I do find the need sometimes to do it myself when it comes to getting what I want. This is the holster my P-7 is in, basically it is a rough out pocket holster with a belt loop to secure it and lift the grip up to a better position. I always wear some kind of bowling shirt...

May become my primary...

I do have to say, I was pretty wowed when I finally got my 64 out to the range. Easy to handle (with my homemade leather grip), very accurate... I mean, I kinda throw that first round with the DA pull, but not enough to not still be on the target. So I'm thinking about switching it to be my primary ...

Re: P64 Range Report

Today was my first real range day with the 64. WOW. I'm loving this pistol. I had changed out my springs when first buying it, but I don't remember offhand to what. I think I went with 20# all around. DA pull... meh, I throw the round a bit, followups on SA are in a tight group right where I'm point...

Re: Magazine pinky extension

Honestly, in my experience most leather holsters need a good deal of hand work before the intended gun fits right. I have one of those NOS P64 holsters that do not fit at first. They are very much authentic, but were probably manufactured en masse from a pattern and not fitted before storage and shr...

Re: Is concealed carry safe with one in chamber and safety on shoot?

A little extra insurance? fill your mag with one of the several self defense rounds available in 9x18, but chamber a military surplus FMJ. Milsurp eastern bloc primers are harder than hell and need a good solid strike to go bang. Just make sure your springs are up to the job of detonating a milsurp ...

Re: Is concealed carry safe with one in chamber and safety on shoot?

My 2 cents... by and large I believe it is safe and I carry this way in the inside the breast pocket of my coat. Aside from the heavy DA trigger pull as a safety feature with this method, with the P64, the hammer cannot make contact with the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled all the way. The p...

Re: Don't go too light on your Wolff Spring

There seems to be significant variation gun to gun with the P-64. Speaking for my pistol, the stock DA trigger pull was in excess of 30 lbs. and the SA came in around 6. Changing out to the Wolff 18/22 set-up, my DA is right around 20 and SA about 5... same as most striker fire pistols and heavier t...

Re: A poll of sorts...

Perry, I'm respectfully disagreeing. At least in the case of my pistol, as I cannot speak for others, and I have tested with and experimented with this extensively with my pistol... with the safety off, there is very distinctly a hammer block mechanism that prevents the hammer from making contact wi...

Re: A poll of sorts...

For me it was a matter of it being wintertime. My normal EDC is an HK P7 that I carry between 7 and 8 O'clock (Lefty). For heavy coat season, I wanted something to carry in the wallet pocket of my coat... a little quicker to get to than the HK would be under the jacket. Size, weight, and hard DA tri...
