Found a P64 on gunbroker that looked to be in good shape. I picked it up yesterday and it looks even better in real life. Upon close inspection it looks absolutely new. I am not aware of any safety issues as long as you do it in a well ventilated space. I would not use regular spray paint though. Use something intended for guns so you don't have to worry about cleaning solvents or lubricants dissolving your finish.
