Re: P64 Newb, assumptions and input requested from the collective p-64 brain.

I shot a clip of ammo thru my P64 before I changed the springs. If I had it to do over I would have changed the recoil spring first. The stock spring is so weak that it allows the slide to slam into the frame more then I like. The 22lb. Wolff helps that out to some degree. The 18lb. hammer spring al...

Re: Monarch Ammo

According to youtube videos Monarch 9X18 ammo does not seem to be loaded as hot as the box says. That suits me fine, I am not into hot loaded ammo, especially in a gun as small as the P-64.

Monarch Ammo

I was just in the local Academy Sports store, they had Monarch 9MM Makarov ammo on sale. This is 94 grain FMJ in a lacquered steel case, 50 rounds for $9.99. I bought one, should have bought more I suppose. The box says that the velocity is 1135 fps yielding 270 ft. lbs. energy. That seems way too h...

Leather Pocket Holster

There is a suede leather pocket holster for sale on Ebay for $15.99 with free shipping. It is for the Walther PPK but the P-64 seems to fit, at least my 1974 model does. It is snug but I think that is probably good and it will loosen as the leather "breaks in".

Re: Any markings inside your P64 Holsters?

Mine is black with the date: 1997-08-25. It has the circle with the KT and a 10 plus other very small writing. It also has a block of writing with: warsza and more that I can not read. It has NOMA in large print then SPOlD?ELNIA ? ALDOW with some unreadable small letters and numbers. It is in new co...

Re: A poll of sorts...

My apologies J.D.. I certainly do not know much about the P-64. Out of habit I could not carry mine off safe with the hammer down and a loaded chamber, it would worry me until I put the safety on. I shoot left handed normally and it would suit better not to have to mess with the safety because it is...

Re: A poll of sorts...

I suppose the main reason I bought a P-64 is because I have a weakness for guns, especially for inexpensive military arms. If the P-64 were made and offered for sale commercially today it would cost twice as much as the almost new ones are going for so they are a bargain. I replaced the springs in m...

Re: Don't change the springs.

The story I heard is that in the 1950's there was talk of adding another category to the Olympic games weight lifting competitions. It had something to do with lifting only with the index finger. The Polish government decided to give their young folks an edge by placing a strong mainspring in their ...

Re: What did you carry today?

Thanks Ketchman. The west must be an interesting place. I have read that there were many, many graves along the trails. Cholera from bad water took many, I am not sure they knew what caused it. There was a fellow that took the Oregon trail in 1850, he counted and wrote down the names on the grave ma...

Re: What did you carry today?

I don't carry, I just keep a S&W 5906 in a case in the vehicle. If I did feel the need to CC, the P-64 would have to be my choice. If I open carried, I would probably go with a Ruger Security Six, the 5906 is on the heavy side. My ggf's brother was heading for the gold fields in 1849 and got as ...

Re: New Member 1976

I have the 18 lb. Wolf hammer spring in mine and the gun seems happy with it. It reduced the DA trigger pull greatly and the SA is great. I had the 20 lb. Wolf recoil spring in for awhile and switched to the 22 lb. I wanted to prevent some of the battering the little gun takes from firing. It does m...

Re: Another da trigger question

I don't know about the hammer spring, I put a Wolf 18 lb. in mine because there are some that say the 17 lb. causes the magazine to release sometimes. I had a Wolf 20 lb. recoil spring in mine for a little while then replaced it with a Wolf 22 lb. spring. I did not notice any difference when shootin...

Re: Effect of lighter hammer spring on SA

I recently bought a 1974 P64. I believe that it had the stock springs when I got it, the DA trigger pull was nearly impossible, the SA pull was OK. I put a 18 lb. Wolff hammer spring in it, the DA is now possible but it still takes some effort. As far as I can tell the spring change had no effect on...

Re: 1974 P 64

I have fired the P64 without issue. I have put a Hogue's Handall Universal grip sleeve on it as high as it would go and cut off the excess at the bottom. It gives more to hold on to and the rubber cushions some and is not as slick as the stock grip surface. I shot Brown Bear 94 grain FMJ which funct...
