Re: sight modifications
Ketchman, No apology necessary on slow response. Life has a way of constantly getting in the way of life. We're on the same page, chapter and verse. Please don't assign too much to the offer of making a silver bead front sight as it's very simple: Put appropriately sized silver rod in vise, apply di...

Re: P64 trigger
robhic, I finally got around to disassembling the pistol, removing the replacement spring, installing the original and testing it. The original spring required even less pressure in SA. I measured the springs and this is what I have: Original spring is 1.1mm. thick wire and the Wolff replacement 18#...

Re: P64 trigger
I'll measure the wire and see what the various springs are. If it turns into a career change, I think I'll just abandon the pistol for carry as I feel the SA trigger is unsafe. I have several other options and, from the beginning, the safety functioning opposite a 1911 had a few points against using...

Re: P64 trigger
robhic,
I can deal with the heavier DA pull if it will give me a less twitchy SA pull. Do you know the specifications for the original spring? As I posted, it's about 1/4" shorter than the three Wolff springs I got and don't know if it's original, has been modified or what.
Thanks,

Re: P64 trigger
Curly1, Heard, Understood, Acknowledged...HUA...hooah! Old, but not yet senile. The heavier spring will require more pressure in DA requiring repositioning of finger and, hopefully, will also give a little stiffer trigger pull in SA which will solve my problem. Got it. Will report once I've swapped ...

Re: P64 trigger
Curly1,
I've tried several hand positions to protect the web of my hand from the bite and I don't have particularly large hands but I will try your suggestion as it just might be the right solution.
Thanks,
2old2run

Re: P64 trigger
Curly1 and robhic, Thanks for the responses. I did not try putting the original spring back in as the new spring tamed the original, and legendary, *264#* DA trigger pull. Looking at the original spring, it's approximately 1/4" shorter than the replacements so I don't know what the story is on ...

Re: P64 trigger
Curly1, I have a 1968 vintage which I purchased used, but in almost new condition, polished the burrs off the safety and spent several weeks working it to smooth it out, polished the feed ramp and replaced the hammer spring with an 18lb. Wolff reduced recoil spring to attempt to reduce the DA trigge...

Magazine variations?
Hi all, I had heard that there are two different magazines for the P-64, an older and a newer model that are, respectively, compatible with the older and newer model P-64s. The newer model P-64 has a different feed ramp and the newer magazines have longer lips on the top that will work with that one...

Re: Safe to carry 1968 vintage with round in the chamber?
Kirk, I escaped from Chicago to rural Colorado about 25 years ago. Got a nice small house on about 12 acres, with clear fields of fire all around about 12 miles from a couple of small towns. My wife and I both think that ET had the right idea and home, where we have plenty to keep us occupied, is ou...

Re: Safe to carry 1968 vintage with round in the chamber?
Curly1, Did you ever see the Milwaukee PD training video on surviving edged weapons which shows a guy with a knife covering 7 yards and stabbing a cop before he can clear his holster? I was never a pistolero having been issued an M-60 back in the day on the other side of the world in the mid-late '6...

Re: Safe to carry 1968 vintage with round in the chamber?
Thanks to everybody for their sage advice. I also followed PA Joe's link and read through that and performed the pencil test. Safety on, pencil didn't launch. When it comes to gun handling and safety, I'm NEVER going against advice of people who know more, or even those who may know less and counsel...

Safe to carry 1968 vintage with round in the chamber?
Hi all, I've got a 1968 vintage in really good shape and have finally smoothed the safety out. I've read various opinions as to whether or not it's safe to carry with one in the chamber, hammer down, safety either on or off. Some say if dropped on the hammer it will fire; others disagree. Anyone kno...

Re: looking for a 45
I just got a High Standard Crusader Compact a little over a month ago. It's a knockoff of the Colt General Officer's model w/3.5" barrel and a 6 round capacity. I thought the 3.5" barrel would present problems as far as accuracy and control, but it's a real pleasure to shoot and the recoil...
