Skip the awl and get the leather punch. The leather scraps that I got were pretty thick.

At work we carry Glock 22s in what we call duty ready. (I know that's about the only way to carry a Glock) My firearms instructor preaches that we carry off duty all the time. One of my guys uses a versa-carry. I think I might try that. For someone who wears a 22lb duty belt everyday, less is better.
