Mike I have had this happen also. Your slide stop on the left side of the frame probably was not flush to the frame when you went to reassemble. I make sure it is seated and then turn the frame to the side so gravity keeps it in place while mounting the slide. I had to use a leather glove on my righ...

The problem I have with a shorter fit is the sharp edges of the now exposed hammer digs into my side.
