Good to know, but why is mine red?

I tried looking this up but I ran into a friend who had the same year, 1976, p-64 as me but mine has this red strip and his doesn't. I'm sure this is something obvious but why is mine red?

Thanks for the info, any idea if this is the original or aftermarket spring? I guess I should just disassemble it and see what spring is in there but I've never seen the lighter springs compared to the originals. Also, the safety should have two stops right? Safe and Ready? It feels like this one ha...
