Re: Ammo

I believe the physics involved is much more complicated than anything described here. More importantly, I think the effect of the hammer/mainspring on recoil, felt or otherwise is negligible and certainly not noticeable . I did change out the stock mainspring for a 17# Wolfe ages ago and certainly f...

How does the hammer spring reduce recoil?

Re: Ammo

Unless there's more to your question, any of the ComBloc 94-95gr ammo should be a very close approximation if not identical to the Polish ammo for shooting purposes. The actual ammunition it was used with initially was designed for their SMG at the time, the PM-63, and had a very hard primer. This i...

Re: Crossbreed

To clarify- The S&W Bodyguard Crossbreed fits the P-64, and THAT is the rig I'm raving about. :-D I have a PPK Crossbreed that fits the P-64 like a glove. In fact, I think I bought it used from somebody on this site. It's the thinnest IWB package I have and I'm not sure if you could get much le...

Re: New Member with a sad story

Zona, you mentioned that you only field-stripped and cleaned this gun. I don't know what condition you received this piece in, but if it was never completely stripped down and thoroughly cleaned, you are asking for problems. These pistols were packed in some of the thickest grease I have ever seen, ...

Re: P83 vs P64

The P83 is a very functional pistol and it does not suffer the problem of the heavy DA trigger pull with the stock spring. It is made from stamped metal and is nowhere near as nice of a looking pistol as the P64 but quite shootable.

Re: Hammer spring poundage

Some use the 17lb successfully while others don't. At this point, I think it should be gauged on a gun-by-gun basis . I would advise against a new recoil spring, though - I think it's a waste of money. FWIW, I concur. The 17# spring has worked without a hitch for me and I've never replaced the reco...

Re: SA pull weight

There is a poster here that installed a heavier weight trigger return spring to address just this issue. You might do a search or perhaps he'll weigh-in on your question.

Re: Finally bought a Radom P-83

I've been searching the net but can't find an answer: Anyone know why these are called "Wanad/Vanad" or what the name means? From Description and the use of pistol P – 83 Ed. II (Translated edition of the P-83 manual, kindly sent to me by JuniusTaylor) 1. Historical background P-83 pistol...

Neither. I still have some boxes of Hornady I bought back when. Wonder if we'll see that back on the shelves one of these days?

Silver Bear 94gr HP

Nothing too exciting to report, but I finally had a chance to shoot a few mags of the Silver Bear 94gr HP ammo in my P-64, P-83 and Soviet PM. As a reminder, I replaced the P-64's hammer spring with a 17# Wolfe and the remainder on all three pistols are stock. All three pistols shot this ammo withou...

Re: 9x18 PA 63

That's interesting. It does say 9mm Makarov, properly identifying it and obviously the headstamp IDed it properly too. I see that label also does not list "Made in Russia". Wonder if those boxes are for a different export market than the US or just an earlier printing?
