Whats up with the key ring on the base of the Makarov?

Wow, what happened?

What mfg would you all recommend? Also, would you recommend HP or ball ammo? Normally I would just go with HP, or maybe pow'r'ball, but I've heard that it has issues with insufficient penetration. Is that true, or was somebody just "mistaken"?

So the pow-r-ball won't make it explode on the first shot eh? What recoil spring would you recommend for use with them?

Have you tried Corbon Powerball for a defensive load? I would think that it would be a good choice for any Mak caliber pistol since none were designed to use HP ammo.

Why? I thought that wolf had fixed the gumming that came from the lacquer coating on their rounds.

Thanks, it says on the home page that they made some changes around 1972 so I think I'll grab one made in '72 or later. Any common defects/problems to look out for?

I was thinking about picking one up there too. Which year would be the best? Anything to look for that would indicate rarity/defects/etc? This would be a first, BTW.
